• It was class time up in the Tiwi Islands but these kids managed to skip it for their passion which was Aussie Rules footy in 2007. But school rules in the Tiwi say no class means no footy.
Moments after this moment was captured their teacher came and took the football away and it was back to english and maths for the kids.
Maybe one of them is playing AFL now - who knows! (Copyright Michael Dodge/Herald Sun)

 • Hawthorn Hawks legend Centre Half Forward Dermott Brereton loved to hate the Essendon Bombers so he jumped at the chance when I asked him if he'd like to burn a Bombers jumper for AFL Rivalry Round.
I met him at his house and he got out the petrol container from the shed. For good effect he put on his Bonds singlet, got out the lighter and "boof" the jumper exploded into flames.
Years later I was speaking to Ian Robson, the Hawks CEO at that time of the photo being published, and he said he had to write a letter of apology to the Bombers as Derm was actually on the board of directors with the Hawks. Whoops, sorry Robbo! (Copyright Michael Dodge/Herald Sun)

 • I was granted an opportunity to photograph Cameron Mooney of the Geelong Cats during their 2009 AFL finals series.
I decided to go to a wrecking yard to find an old door, buy it and then smash a large hole in it with the vision of getting Moons posing through it like Jack Nicholson in The Shining.
I wanted to show him as if he was chomping at the bit to get out there on Grand Final day but the challenge obviously was getting him to buy the idea.
Luckily for me Moons loved the movie and was happy to pose.
He even gave me a "Here's Johnny"... (Copyright Michael Dodge/Herald Sun)

 • As usual it was to be a quick AFL player headshot on offer during the finals of 2010. This time it was Luke Hodge of the Hawthorn Hawks.
Hodgey came out to me with two black eyes from his weekend game so all I needed to do was situate him in front of the rustic concrete background at Waverley Park and presto.
Ten frames was enough to do the job. (Copyright Michael Dodge/Herald Sun)

 • In 2011 Hawks AFL hard man Campbell Brown suddenly found himself heading up north to play for the Gold Coast Suns.
I flew up to his house and hired artist Liz Golding to tone him up with gold paint to mark the occasion.
His garage provided the space for a pop-up studio and all he needed to do was strip naked in front of the neighbours that he hadn't yet met.
As always nothing fazed Browny. (Copyright Michael Dodge/Herald Sun)

 • Butterflies shipped in from Peru were enough to inspire Essendon Bombers footballer Alwyn Davey to take part in a photoshoot for AFL's Indigenous Round in 2009.
Indigenous footballers bring athletic ability , intuition and wizardry to the great game of AFL and fans would agree they do float like butterflies and sting like bees.
• Liam Jurrah had a fleeting but brilliant career with the Melbourne Demons in the AFL.
Jurrah is also known as "Jungarrayi",an initiated member of the Warlpiri people who are based in Yuendumu, a small and remote Indigenous Australian community 300 km north-west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.
He is the first indigenous person from a remote community in Central Australia to play senior football in the AFL
He was a great football story but since 2012 Jurrah has sadly been charged with legal offences on several occasions.
• In 2004 Carlton footballer Andrew McKay was training to be a Veterinary Surgeon. Here he was captured performing a vasectomy on a rabbit.
The story centered around whether McKay would retire from playing in the AFL in pursuit of his next career as a vet surgeon.
The headline in the paper the next day? "What's Up Doc". (Copyright Michael Dodge/Herald Sun)

 • Collingwood Magpies footballer Leon Davis had the nickname "Neon Leon" bestowed on him by Magpies President and AFL Commentator Eddie McGuire.
Taken inside the Magpies club boardroom, with the curtains taped to block out any available light, only two lava lamps were used to create the mood that suited his cheeky personality and wizard like skills on the field.
In fact Leon preferred "Magic" as his nickname. (Copyright Michael Dodge/Herald Sun)
