After a strong lead up campaign New Zealand raider Red Ruler was one of the fancies going into the 2008 Caulfield Cup. Here the four year old gelding is given his early trackwork in heavy mist by jockey Corey Brown as they head into a magnificent cup-eve sunrise.
It's a tough life being a jockey with the many scrutinies they face but one of the rewards are walking into amazing sunrises such as this one.
Taken with a 300mm lens, the suns rays had an amazing effect on the light as it was diffused through the early morning mist. (Copyright Michael Dodge/Herald Sun)
